Stemming Crime in Baltimore

Over the last month, the Orthodox Jewish community of Baltimore has been victimized by a rash of home invasions and other crimes that have disturbed the generally calm suburban neighborhoods around the Baltimore City – Baltimore County line. Community leaders and safety organizations have been working in close contact with law enforcement and elected officials in both jurisdictions to address the problem and to put measures in place to try and end the recent trends. As the crime has covered multiple jurisdictions, Agudath Israel’s Maryland director, Rabbi Ariel Sadwin contacted state officials to enlist their involvement in ensuring the safety of the community. Thankfully, alert and astute community members helped provide information that led to the apprehension of some of the alleged perpetrators early this week.
