Nomination of Kenneth Marcus as Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights

Agudath Israel of America, a national Orthodox Jewish organization, welcomes the announcement that President Trump intends to nominate Kenneth L. Marcus to be Assistant Secretary of Education for Civil Rights. Mr Marcus is a legal scholar of note, as well as an experienced and effective practitioner in advancing and protecting civil rights. His work on combatting anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry on college campuses and elsewhere has been groundbreaking and transformational.

As a growing number of civil rights issues face both public and private educational institutions and their students, Mr. Marcus’ sensitivity and dedication, as well as his professional background, make him an ideal candidate to ensure that both schools and students will be free of prejudice and unjust discrimination.

Mr. Marcus will be a great asset to President Trump, Secretary of Education DeVos and to the U.S. Department of Education, where he will return and build on his successful tenure in the same position he held during the Bush Administration. We wish him success and urge his speedy confirmation.
