Highland Park/Edison community members meet with legislators to discuss the security bill

On Wednesday afternoon, many prominent members of the Highland Park/Edison community, including representatives from all five local Jewish schools, gathered for an important meeting with Assemblyman Gary Schaer (D-Passaic) and Assemblywoman Nancy Pinkin (D-Middlesex). The purpose of the gathering was to discuss the Secure Schools for All Children Act, A4288, which would allocate $4 million for the security needs of nonpublic schools.

Arranged by Rabbi Avi Schnall, New Jersey director of Agudath Israel of America, the meeting was hosted by Reenas Bais Yaakov High School. The legislators emphasized the importance of engaging community members so they will reach out to different elected officials and encourage them to support this legislation. Assemblywoman Pinkin informed the group that she and Assemblyman Patrick Diegnan will soon be added as prime sponsors of the bill.

The Secure Schools for All Children Act was introduced by Assemblyman Gary Schaer, who is investing tremendous effort to push it through the legislative process.
