Maryland Legislative Session Heating Up

With one month already completed in the 2015 legislative session in Annapolis, the General Assembly is beginning to focus on many of the issues important to the Jewish community.

Last week, Agudath Israel provided testimony at bill hearings for legislation on issues such as special education and presumed consent organ donation. This week was the House budget hearing to discuss education allocations, and specifically the nonpublic textbook program. Next week will feature both the House and Senate committee hearings for the scholarship tax credit bill. As the program is a corporate tax credit, Agudath Israel and its allies on the nonpublic school coalition have been working hard to get all Maryland businesses to sign up as “partners” in the tax credit endeavor to demonstrate to the legislature the business community’s desire to partner in the support of education.
