Lives Getting Back to Normal in Baltimore

After one week of civil unrest, following the tragic death of Freddie Gray, much calm has been restored in Baltimore City. On Sunday morning, a group of community leaders from Baltimore City’s northwest district, home to one of the largest Orthodox communities in the country, came to show their respect and appreciation to the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) and Maryland National Guardsmen. Gathering at the BPD’s Northwest Precinct for the morning roll call, the group – comprised of several rabbis and heads of community organizations – expressed their appreciation to the law enforcement officials who put forth great efforts maintaining the safety of the community and not letting the vandalism, looting, and arson that took place nearby to spill over into the rest of the city.

Agudath Israel’s Rabbi Ariel Sadwin addressed the gathering and shared warm and appreciative words to the Guardsmen and to Baltimore’s “men and women in blue”. Throughout the week of unrest, Rabbi Sadwin was in constant contact with both government officials and community representatives to ensure that the community and its interests were protected and that the community was acting in compliance with the nightly curfew and other instructions that came from Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Governor Larry Hogan.After one week of civil unrest, following the tragic death of Freddie Gray, much calm has been restored in Baltimore City.
