Lawsuit Update Regarding Florida’s Tax Credit Scholarship

The Florida teachers union and other groups behind the lawsuit challenging Florida’s tax credit scholarship, have chosen to appeal the Leon County Circuit Court judge’s ruling last month that dismissed their case based on a lack of standing. The judge made clear that the plaintiffs could not show how the Tax Credit Scholarship program harms public schools.

The Florida Education Association, the Florida PTA and other supporters of the lawsuit filed the necessary papers in a Tallahassee court signaling their intention to continue the challenge even after the Florida School Board Association voted last week to remove themselves as plaintiffs in the lawsuit. The Scholarship Tax Credit program serves 70,000 low-income students across the state and generates more than $8 million in scholarships for students choosing to attend Jewish schools.
