Inspiring Rally at Arizona Capitol

Last Thursday, January 29, 2015, Agudath Israel’s Arizona director, Rabbi Rob Glazer attended the school choice rally at the capitol building in Phoenix, Arizona. Governor Doug Ducey, Senator Carlyle Begay, Senator Kelli Ward, and Governor Stephen Lewis of the Gila River Indian Community all participated in the celebration.

More than a political event or a platform to advocate ideas, this event was really a celebration.  It was inspiring to see students from various backgrounds, including private school students, charter school students, online learning students, and home-schooled students, gathering together to celebrate school choice week.  An educator from a charter school spoke of how he has seen students flourish academically because they found what they needed in a specific school.  A high school student spoke about her personal experiences and the educational value she sees from being able to choose what school she attends.  The words spoken and the excitement felt during this celebration inspired attendees to continue to support this incredibly important cause and push for more expansive school choice legislation.

Although the celebration took place just outside the walls of the legislative buildings, thanks to a strong school choice coalition, the excitement, words of encouragement, and stories of success will reverberate through the walls of the buildings and into the ears of the legislators.  We look forward to more school choice legislation in Arizona that will allow even more parents to choose the best educational opportunities for their child.
