On Sunday morning, Agudath Israel’s Maryland and Mid-Atlantic director, Rabbi Ariel Sadwin, joined Jewish officials and communal officials at the Government House in Annapolis for Governor and Mrs. O’Malley’s annual Chanukah event.

Newcomers at this year’s event included the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Ron Dermer; and White House Director of Outreach and Jewish Liaison, Matt Nosanchuk. The tone of the event had a mixture of celebration and nostalgia, as Governor O’Malley will complete his eight years of service as Maryland’s chief executive in a mere few weeks.

Agudath Israel of Maryland’s constituent services department had a busy week assisting community members with issues relating to each of the three levels of government: a housing assistance matter on the local level; a transportation matter on the state level; and a federal issue that involved working with Senator Barbara Mikulski’s office to help family members acquire the necessary visas in order to be together at a wedding on Thursday.
