A national beacon

Agudath Israel called it historic. Seth Lipsky, the founder and editor of the New York Sun, penned an op-ed in the New York Post this week calling it “a national beacon.”

The issue at the center of much attention, was the budget compromise in New York State which recognized the unique nature of a yeshiva education. It clarified what should be taken into account when evaluating certain nonpublic schools’ compliance with the law mandating them to offer a substantially equivalent education to that offered in public schools. To read more about the significance of that measure as well as the many other budget highlights affecting nonpublic schools in New York see below.

In Maryland, Rabbi Sadwin provides a very encouraging report below detailing the many accomplishments of Agudath Israel and its allies. Those highlights include a 30% increase in the allocation for the state’s BOOST private school scholarship program for low-income students and a huge win for parents contributing to 529 plans.

Congratulations to all those completing Seder Nezikin this week, leaving just a bit more than one last order of the Talmud and 639 pages to complete before the next Siyum Hashas in 2020.
