School Choice Expansion in Florida

As Florida’s special legislative session comes to an end, lawmakers more than doubled the funds available for the Personal Learning Scholarship Accounts (PLSA) for special needs students. The PLSA is a scholarship program that allows parents to personalize the education of their special needs children by directing the money toward a combination of approved programs. These include school tuition, therapists, specialists, and curriculum technology.

The Legislature set aside more than $53 million for the expanded program. The legislation will also clarify the definition of autism to include a wider range of children, and extend eligibility for children with muscular dystrophy. Agudath Israel of Florida expresses appreciation to members of the Florida Legislature for their hard work and deep compassion in expanding this extremely important program.
